Berceuse is French for Lullaby. I like to imagine that we all have an official lullaby (or two) holding safe space for us while watching over us as we sleep. These ethereal beings live in the liminal spaces between our dreams. Added synchronicity: Someone told me that a berceuse is usually in 6/8 time and these paintings all measure eight by six inches. I wish I could tell you that I did this on purpose. All I know is that when I was looking at the first two that I painted, I asked them to tell me what they were.
The Berceuse series evolved from 2021's Fleurs de Clair series which was inspired by Drag culture. The Fleurs suggest that we are safe to be who we want to be and create ourselves completed. Both series include oil paints made from pure, crushed semi-precious stones with healing qualities which gives these diminutive paintings another exquisite layer of experience. This year the Berceuse series offers additional healing. They wear Swarovski crystals and twinkle with refractions of light therapy for your eye.
