“What a work of art is about is what it evokes by its presence.
It can share or impact a subjective experience of the world.”
There is a fulcrum between the gravity and the water soaking up the substrate. There is a point where gravity becomes the pigmented fluid’s travel agent up and down the linen. What is that fulcrum? What is that moment? The tension when gravity no longer rules and lets go, and the pigment stays.
These works evoke painting without painting, or being what is expected from a painting.
